HERO Horde eBook Kevin Rau

HERO Horde eBook Kevin Rau
Someone or something is changing ordinary people into things that resemble red orcs with single minded hatred of Goths. They attack Goth clubs owned by Lady Rapture, Lady Celeste and Lady Nocturne. I found this trio interesting but not so well developed. Hopefully we’ll have more exposition on their stories in future books.Rayna’s creatures continue to fascinate and amuse. I love that they (particularly the dragon Kar) are obsessed with video games. To motivate them, Rayna couches tasks in terms of quests with experience points rewarded for successful completion.
A few interesting new characters where introduced, my favorites being Borgz and Andre. Borgz has the power to transfer his consciousness into inanimate objects – such as manikins, cars, robots, etc. He and his friend Aimee were killed by the orcs, but although his body died, his consciousness automatically transferred to a little toy robot. Andre has the power to “juice” the power of other supers markedly increasing their power. He is a guitar player and when he gets into a particular song, his powers kick in.
This book was fun and a light quick read, but I didn't enjoy it as much as the other books. It seemed to me that there was less character interaction, and the red orcs didn't seem to be a particularly grave threat, since the supers were all stronger than they. They did do a lot of damage and killing to normal people and even mutants. I already read the 6th H.E.R.O. book, Paragon (although I haven't yet posted a review) and am happy to say that it was a great book.

HERO Horde eBook Kevin Rau Reviews
Really enjoyed reading this book on my kindle keyboard, I like and have read all the H.E.R.O. books. Mr Rau good job please witre more!
In spite of the misuse of I for me through out the books and occasional typos it is pure escapism comic book without the pictures. I grew up reading comic books and later Mad Magazine. Now I read Rau's version of superheroes and relive my childhood days. Oh, I am 71. So maybe it's a form of senility? Why not 5 stars - well, it's not Steinbeck, Hemmingway, Lewis, etc. It is strictly entertainment.
Really fun and interesting series, very inventive and not just your usual powers. It gets a little risque here and there, but not overly so and its fun to see the characters and the world change as things happen in the story. Keep them coming Kevin, I'm loving the books!
Another fun read in the series. While there's a common theme, each chapter is from the point of view of a different character. This is great if you are reading in short time periods. It can be a little jarring if you read for a long time.
Lots of new characters and an overall fun universe.
This was one of the more fun stories in the H.E.R.O. series. Kevin opens up a new region of the main city by exploring the slums where the mutant live and gather. They are clearly divided in groups based on personality and that division is exploited by an unusual super powered character who has an unexplained grudge.
there are a few other appearances here of character as Kevin was still building the universe. The story does jump around a bit, but nowhere near as much as his more recent tales.
Its all solid fun here
I like that characters, you learn who to root for, who to root against. I like the mix- some are nice folks, some are odd, and some annoying (yes Diva, but we can't all be well, intelligent). A nice mix, like any writer, the books has ebbs and flows (if one character keeps pushing themselves to the limit(s) why doesn't someone remind them to EAT MORE?), a few wobbly plot points (see last note) but at the same time- this is reading for pure fun and escapism and that is what the H.E.R.O. universe is about (a side note, a bit more diversity, please?? its getting a wee bit 'Riverdale' here okay?) Will I buy the next in the series, yes. Recommend it? yes. Put it down as one of my all time favorite reads that changed my life? no. Kill some time? yep!
Keep it up, curious how far you can keep this going, but if it DOES end, let us know so I won't keep checking back. Thanks.
Kevin Rau delivers what he promises -- a fun, evolving story of super powered humans, aliens and the future worlds he sees them building. I particularly enjoy what some of his characters are doing on Mars and look forward to seeing that develop further.
With great power comes great responsibility -- or hideous villainy. Rau does not pull his punches. People die heroically stopping banal evil. Monsters gleefully slaughter innocent bystanders. Criminals with deliberate, murderous intent, ambush heroes. Heroes accidentally break things. Villains accidentally fix things. Mistakes and confusion divide people. Caring and planning bring people together. It's what we might rationally expect from a world where random 'gifts' of super powers can happen to anyone.
Be prepared for a jet sled ride through world-shaking events crammed into a tiny slice of time, snap decisions on incomplete information, nasty wounds, horribly inadequate hydration and 'good enough' solutions for a crazy enjoyable universe.
